DENIM GLOSSARY

1- INDIGO

Also called “the living colour” due to its fading properties, indigo is a blue compound used for dyeing. It has been a natural dye for centuries, being extracted from a variety of plants (indigofera,…). During the early 1900´s, synthetic indigo was developed and it has gradually replaced most of the natural indigo used worldwide.

Indigo is the dyestuff used on most of the denim and other rugged workwear fabrics.
