Quality denim over quantity
When it comes to the cost per wear people sometimes get stuck. Usually we choose cheap products beautiful on the outside, but in fact, low price means low cost production and obviously low quality. Before buying anything too expensive, try to calculate the true cost per wear. In a way, cost per wear isn’t so much a formula as it is a philosophy: less is always more. CPW=Total cost of the item/Number of days you´ll wear it. Let’s take, for instance, a pair of high-quality raw denim priced 200€. In the beginning it might seem a small fortune, but eventually it starts basically paying for itself. To begin with, you’re investing into future as you get a durable product that will last anywhere from a couple of years to a decade, and if you calculate its CPW it comes out to less than 1€ per wear if you’re going to wear them every day. Not bad for a pair of jeans!
In the second place, each pair is uniquely yours. Raw jeans personalize you because they keep your experiences, stories and passions. Every whisker, fade or honeycomb is only yours and there’re no two raw denims identical. Mass-produced jeans will always be the same, no matter how often you wear or wash them, as they come with fake fading and distressing. With raw denim you are getting used to your jeans, as they’re strong and it takes time to break them in, but once you do it they will make you a good company whenever and wherever you’d wear them. And in case they rip or wear out, they can always be fixed. Going raw has its rewards.
Finally, with denim cost is relative to sustainability. We live our lives in denim so it’d be fair enough to choose an eco-friendly product, lasting and durable, and that means less waste and more value. Go for the longer lasting goods, you’ll appreciate that decision in the long run. Choosing quality over quantity defines your culture, education and values. Garments of quality have no fear of time, even if they cost a little extra. Companion denim values craftsmanship over fast fashion because details make the difference.
